Meet Izabela – Your Online Counsellor

Hi, I’m Izabela Burge, a qualified counsellor and psychotherapist providing private online counselling for adults in Canterbury and the surrounding areas.

I understand that everyone comes to counselling with different experiences, challenges and expectations. What helps one person may not necessarily work for another, which is why I believe therapy should be as individual as the person seeking it.

My approach is pluralistic, meaning I use a combination of established therapeutic methods, including techniques from Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), depending on your needs and what we agree might be most helpful.

Perhaps you know exactly what you’d like to talk about, or maybe you’re finding it difficult to put your feelings into words. Either way, there’s no expectation to have everything figured out before we meet.

Our sessions are a chance to explore what’s happening in your life, make sense of your experiences and consider what you’d like to change. We’ll work together to find an approach you’re comfortable with, reviewing and adjusting things as your needs evolve.

My role isn’t to tell you how you should feel or what you should do. It’s to help you find your own way forward, with understanding, encouragement and support.

How Counselling Can Help

You don’t need to be in crisis to benefit from counselling. Sometimes you know exactly what’s troubling you. At other times, you may feel something's not right.

You might be struggling with anxiety that won’t settle down, feeling overwhelmed by work or relationships, dealing with loss or bereavement, questioning your confidence or finding that everyday life has become harder than it used to.

Counselling gives you a safe and confidential space to explore what’s happening without judgement, understand yourself and your experiences more clearly, and begin finding ways forward that feel manageable.

Izabela works with adults experiencing a wide range of emotional and personal difficulties, which includes:

CBT, Psychotherapy or Counselling?

If you’ve been seeking private counselling, you’ve probably come across terms like CBT, psychotherapy, person-centred counselling and talking therapy quite often. Knowing which approach is right for you can quickly become confusing, particularly when you’re already dealing with something difficult.

The good news is, you don’t need to choose a type of therapy before you begin.

Izabela is a pluralistic counsellor, which means she isn’t restricted to one particular therapeutic approach. Instead, she draws on different ways of working depending on what you’re experiencing, what you want to achieve and what helps you the best.

✅ ADHD
✅ Anger Management
✅ Anxiety
✅ Bereavement
✅ Burnout

✅ Couples Therapy
✅ Depression
✅ Low Self-Esteem
✅ Marriage & Divorce
✅ Pet Bereavement

✅ Personal Development
✅ Relationships
✅ Stress
✅ Trauma
✅ Work-related Concerns

Looking for CBT in Canterbury?

If you’ve been exploring counselling options in Canterbury, you may have come across Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT). It’s a well-established approach that helps people recognise how their thoughts, emotions and behaviours are connected, and develop practical strategies for managing difficulties.

Izabela can incorporate CBT techniques into your counselling, but she also recognises that no single approach works for everyone.

For some people, understanding how past experiences influence their present feelings is particularly valuable. Others benefit from focusing on current challenges and finding practical ways to move forward.

Through pluralistic counselling, Izabela can combine different therapeutic techniques according to your circumstances and preferences, rather than relying on CBT alone.

You don’t need to decide which type of therapy is right for you beforehand. That’s something you and Izabela can explore together.

How Does Online Counselling Work?

Starting video counselling doesn’t need to feel daunting or complicated. You can meet Izabela online from the comfort and privacy of your own home, with no referral required and no commitment to continue.

How to Start Online Counselling

Choose a suitable time for a short initial video consultation with Izabela. It’s an opportunity to discuss what’s brought you to counselling, ask questions and see how you feel about working together.

There’s absolutely no pressure or commitment to continue. Counselling is personal, so it’s important that you feel comfortable with your counsellor and the way you’ll work together.

If you decide you want to continue, you can arrange your first online counselling session at a time that works for you. You’ll meet Izabela privately by video from wherever you feel ready.

With Mending Minds, there's no set packages or long-term tie-ins. You and Izabela can regularly review how you feel things are progressing and what you need moving forwards.

Additionally, therapists may undergo regular professional supervision as part of their ethical responsibilities.

If you have any concerns or questions about confidentiality, please feel free to discuss them with your therapist before starting your sessions.

I am truly overwhelmed by the response I received in relation to my enquiry and how compassionate you are. I have never been treated that nicely with my mental health ever and normally judged or people think well it's not happening to you so not your issue. Definitely very very good at your job. Thank you
