Pluralistic Approach

The pluralistic approach is founded on the belief that different clients have different needs and that the best way to help them is through a combination of therapeutic methods. Here’s how I incorporate this approach into my practice.

Collaboration and Personalisation

Therapy is a collaborative process where your preferences and feedback are central. Together, we will explore various therapeutic techniques and identify what works best for you.

Diverse Therapeutic Techniques

I utilise a range of methods from psychodynamic therapy, cognitive-behavioural therapy (CBT), person-centred therapy, and more. This allows us to adapt our sessions to fit your evolving needs and goals.

Flexibility and Adaptability

If a particular approach isn’t working, we can seamlessly shift to another method. This flexibility ensures that therapy remains effective and responsive to your personal journey.

Empowerment and Self-Discovery

The pluralistic approach empowers you to be an active participant in your therapy. By engaging in different techniques and exploring various aspects of yourself, you will embark on a comprehensive journey of self-discovery and growth.

Person-Centred

At the heart of my practice is the person-centred approach, which emphasises empathy, unconditional positive regard, and congruence. This approach, developed by Carl Rogers, focuses on creating a supportive and non-judgmental environment where you can explore your thoughts and feelings freely.

Empathy

I strive to deeply understand your experiences and perspectives, ensuring you feel heard and valued.

Unconditional Positive Regard

I offer acceptance and support without judgement, fostering a safe space for you to express yourself.

Congruence

I maintain authenticity and transparency, building a genuine and trusting therapeutic relationship.

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) Approach

One of the key approaches I utilise in my practice is Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), which focuses on identifying and changing negative thought patterns and behaviours. CBT is an evidence-based approach that helps clients understand how their thoughts, feelings, and behaviours are interconnected and how they can develop healthier patterns.

Identifying Negative Thought Patterns

Together, we will identify and challenge distorted thinking patterns that contribute to your emotional distress.

Behavioural Interventions

We will develop practical strategies and coping mechanisms to modify unhelpful behaviours and promote positive change.

Goal-Oriented

CBT is structured and goal-oriented, focusing on specific issues and working towards tangible outcomes in a relatively short period.

Skill Development

You will learn valuable skills, such as problem-solving, stress management, and mindfulness, to enhance your overall well-being and resilience.

FAQs

Who will be counselling me?

Mending Minds is an independent counselling practice owned and operated by myself (Izabela Burge). I am the principle therapist who conducts all therapy sessions with clients.

What are your qualifications?

I am a fully qualified Level 5 Pluralistic Psychotherapeutic Counsellor, and registered with the National Counselling and Psychotherapy Society (NCPS). I was university educated in the United States of America, and have a Bachelor’s Degree in Public Relations and Psychology.

Are you DBS checked?

Yes, I am fully DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service ) checked in line with current UK regulations.

Are therapy session private and secure?

Absolutely. All therapy sessions conducted are treated in the strictest of confidence. We do not hold any personal data on yourself, ensuring your right to privacy and dignity is upheld at all times.

Will my therapist treat what I say as confidential?

Professional therapists are committed to maintaining the strictest confidentiality. However, there are some exceptions. For instance, if you express intent to harm yourself or another identifiable person, your therapist may be obligated to report this to the appropriate authorities. Additionally, therapists may undergo regular professional supervision as part of their ethical responsibilities.

If you have any concerns or questions about confidentiality, please feel free to discuss them with your therapist before starting your sessions.

Do you offer face-to-face counselling in person?

Unfortunately, I am not able to offer face-to-face counselling at this time.

How will I communicate with my therapist?

Your therapist, Izabela, is available through email, phone, SMS, and video conferencing. While all therapy sessions are typically conducted via video, alternative arrangements can be made if needed. Feel free to reach out to Izabela with any questions or concerns via email, text, or phone.

How do live video sessions work?

All sessions are conducted through secure video calls, allowing you to connect with your therapist face-to-face in a virtual setting via Google Meet (similar to Zoom or FaceTime).

To get started, simply schedule a session with your therapist. You’ll receive an email invitation confirming the time and details. When it’s time for your session, just log into Google Meet and start the call. Once you’re connected, you’ll be able to begin your video chat and talk openly with your therapist in real time.

Do you provide counselling over the telephone?

In most cases, we recommend video calls for therapy sessions, as they often lead to the best results. However, we understand that technology can feel overwhelming for some, and speaking to someone over video may be challenging or stressful.

If you’d feel more comfortable with phone-based counselling, we’re happy to explore options and create a therapy plan that works for you.

How do I pay for my therapy sessions?

To confirm your therapy sessions, payment must be made in advance. We accept secure payments via bank transfer, or by credit and debit card through Stripe.

How do I know this type of therapy is right for me?

Countless studies support the effectiveness of online therapy for creating meaningful life changes. But my true confidence in this approach comes from the feedback and testimonials I receive from clients. Every day, I’m inspired by the stories of those who’ve experienced life-changing results through this service.
